ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial from Baskent University in Adana, Turkey is testing whether complex decongestive therapy (CDT) for lymphedema after breast cancer treatment can affect markers of oxidative stress and antioxidants in the body. CDT is a hands-on therapy given over ten sessions by a trained therapist and includes manual lymph drainage, skin care, special bandaging, and simple exercises. The study will compare the lymphedema group to a healthy control group and will measure several blood markers before, right after, and about one month after treatment, focusing mainly on PON1 (an antioxidant enzyme) and OSI (a measure of oxidative stress), along with other related tests.
Eligible participants are women aged 25 and older who developed lymphedema after breast cancer treatment, with moderate to advanced swelling (stage 2 or 3). Exclusion criteria include recent lymphedema treatment (within 3 months), serious heart problems, ongoing chemotherapy, active liver disease, or persistent infection in the affected arm. The trial plans to enroll about 52 people and is currently inviting eligible participants. It is not a drug or device study, and no results are available yet.
