ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how exercise affects the health of red blood cells in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are on hemodialysis. Researchers want to see if regular, supervised exercise can improve the ability of red blood cells to change shape, stick together, and carry oxygen. This is important because better red blood cell function can help improve overall health and quality of life for these patients. The trial will involve about 180 participants who will exercise three times a week for six months in the hospital, and then continue for another three months at home.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 20 years old, have been on hemodialysis for at least six weeks, and meet specific health criteria. During the trial, participants will undergo tests to measure their fitness and the condition of their red blood cells before and after the exercise program. This research aims to understand how exercise can improve not just muscle strength and fitness but also the physical properties of red blood cells in people undergoing hemodialysis.
