ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a condition called refeeding syndrome (RFS) in critically ill children. RFS can happen when malnourished children start receiving food or nutrition again after a period of not eating. If they get too much too quickly, it can lead to serious problems with important minerals in their bodies, like potassium and magnesium. The trial aims to better understand how to safely reintroduce nutrition to these children to prevent complications.
To be eligible for the trial, children aged 1 month to 18 years who have been in the hospital and are severely malnourished (not fed for at least three days) may be included. Researchers will look at their levels of certain minerals in the blood to determine if they are at risk for refeeding syndrome. Unfortunately, children under 1 month, over 18 years, or those with certain health conditions will not be able to participate. If your child qualifies, they will receive special nutritional support while being closely monitored for their health and well-being throughout the study.
