ClinConnect Summary
This small pilot study is looking at whether an aromatherapy oil blend can help reduce stress and improve relaxation and overall wellbeing in women who have finished treatment for gynecologic cancers. Participants will be randomly assigned to use either the test essential-oil blend (five oils in a carrier oil) or a control oil with a faint aroma, and neither participants nor researchers will know who uses which (a blinded, or “triple-masked,” study). They will apply the rollerball oil every evening for 4 weeks and complete a wellbeing questionnaire at the start, at 2 weeks, and at 4 weeks to see if there are any changes.
Eligibility is for adult women who are at least 6 months past active treatment for gynecologic cancer and able to consent. People with fragrance allergies or who are pregnant or planning pregnancy cannot participate. If you join, you’ll use the assigned oil each evening for four weeks and fill out the wellbeing questionnaire three times. After the study, researchers plan a focus group to gather feedback. The trial is in Dublin, Ireland at St. James’s Hospital, with about 40 participants planned, and it is currently enrolling by invitation; so far no adverse events have been reported. Data are kept privacy-protecting and linked by a study ID on the product.
