ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to help people reduce their heavy drinking by using a method that includes self-talk videos. Participants will be randomly placed in one of three groups: one that only receives assessments, one that gets standard motivational support, and one that creates a personal video talking to their future self about their reasons for wanting to cut back on alcohol. The goal is to see if making and receiving this personalized video after the support session helps participants feel more motivated to change their drinking habits.
To join the trial, you must be at least 18 years old, meet criteria for heavy drinking, and have access to a laptop with a camera and microphone. During the study, participants can expect to engage in a motivational session and, if in the video group, receive help from graduate students to create their video. After about three weeks, they will receive the video, which aims to boost their motivation at a time when it often starts to fade. The researchers hope that the video will be helpful and that those in the video group will reduce their drinking more than those in the other groups.
