ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how well ultrasound can confirm the correct placement of gastric feeding tubes (GFTs) in patients who are in intensive care. A gastric feeding tube is a special tube that helps deliver nutrition directly to the stomach when a person cannot eat normally. The researchers want to see if using ultrasound can reliably show whether the tube is positioned correctly in the stomach by looking for a specific pattern called the "mosaic sign" after a small amount of air is introduced into the tube.
To be eligible for this study, patients must be on a breathing machine (tracheally intubated) and require a gastric feeding tube that needs to be replaced due to reasons like malfunction or displacement. Patients will give their consent to participate and will undergo an ultrasound examination after the tube is replaced. The results will help determine if ultrasound is a good method for confirming that the feeding tube is in the right place, which is important for ensuring patients receive the nutrition they need safely.
