ClinConnect Summary
The Contin-RUN Study is looking into urinary incontinence, which is when women experience involuntary leakage of urine, specifically focusing on female runners in Brazil. The study has two main goals: first, to find out how common urinary incontinence and related issues are among female runners, and second, to test and compare three different exercise programs to help treat this condition. These exercise programs include a mix of pelvic floor muscle training with abdominal workouts, a type of abdominal exercise called hypopressive training, and pelvic floor muscle training on its own. Participants will keep track of their urinary incontinence over a 12-week period and will be evaluated at the end to see which exercise method is the most effective.
To join the study, women must be between the ages of 65 and 74, have been running regularly for at least six months, and experience involuntary urine leakage while running. Participants should also have good pelvic floor muscle strength. However, those with certain medical conditions or past surgeries that affect bladder function will not be eligible. If you decide to participate, you can expect to engage in specific exercises tailored to help improve your symptoms and contribute to important research that may help many women like you.
