ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Nudging Effective and Equitable Delivery of Specialty Palliative Care," is designed to improve how patients with serious illnesses receive palliative care in hospitals. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from symptoms and improving the quality of life for patients facing serious health challenges. The trial will test two new notification systems that will help hospital doctors identify patients who may benefit from palliative care consultations. These notifications will either encourage doctors to consider a palliative care consult or allow them to opt out if they feel it isn't necessary. The goal is to see if these alerts lead to more patients receiving the care they need while also tracking how many days patients spend in the hospital over six months.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old, currently hospitalized, and meet certain criteria indicating they could benefit from palliative care. However, those who are already in hospice care, rehabilitation, psychiatry, obstetrics, or neonatal services are not eligible. Participants will be part of a study that compares these new notification methods to the usual way of providing care, and the researchers will also look into how well these methods work and whether they treat all patients fairly. If you or a loved one is interested in participating, this trial aims to make sure that more patients receive the specialized support they may need during their hospital stay.
