ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring a special training program aimed at helping people with Ataxia-Retinitis Pigmentosa and Spinal Cord Syndrome (ARSACS) and Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 (DM1) improve their skills in using manual wheelchairs (MWC). Many individuals who rely on wheelchairs may struggle with mobility and confidence, which can affect their everyday activities and overall quality of life. The research team wants to understand how effective this training can be in enhancing wheelchair skills, which could lead to greater independence, such as being able to leave the house for shopping or socializing.
To participate in the study, individuals must be at least 18 years old, have a diagnosis of ARSACS or DM1, and regularly use a manual wheelchair for mobility. Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires before and after the training, and they will also be contacted three months later to see how they are doing. This trial is not currently recruiting participants, but it aims to improve how therapists can help people with ARSACS and DM1 gain better mobility and confidence with their wheelchairs, ultimately enhancing their daily lives.
