ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of insulin eye drops on healing the surface of the eye (the corneal epithelium) after a procedure called corneal crosslinking in patients with keratoconus, a condition that affects the shape of the cornea and can lead to vision problems. During the crosslinking procedure, the top layer of the cornea is removed to help strengthen the eye tissue, but this can cause pain and increase the risk of complications like infections and scarring. Researchers want to see if applying insulin eye drops can help the cornea heal faster and reduce these risks.
To participate in this study, you need to be diagnosed with keratoconus and scheduled for corneal crosslinking. However, individuals with diabetes, severe dry eyes, certain eye diseases, or allergies to insulin or specific eye medications cannot join. If you take part in the trial, you will be randomly assigned to receive either insulin eye drops or a placebo (a dummy treatment that looks the same but has no active ingredients). The aim is to compare how quickly the eye heals in both groups. Overall, the study hopes to find out if insulin can play a helpful role in improving recovery after corneal crosslinking.
