ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the presence of tiny plastic particles, known as microplastics, in the lungs of patients with lung cancer and other respiratory diseases. Microplastics can come from the breakdown of larger plastic items and can enter our bodies through the air we breathe. Researchers want to learn more about how these particles may affect lung health, as there are concerns they could cause inflammation and possibly contribute to lung diseases, including lung cancer. The study aims to collect tissue samples during surgeries to see how common these microplastics are and what types are found in the lungs.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be 18 years or older and undergoing surgery for lung cancer, emphysema, interstitial lung diseases, or lung transplantation. However, those who have recently undergone certain treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, or who have had previous lung surgeries, may not be eligible. Participants will have their lung tissue analyzed for microplastics, which could help researchers gain a better understanding of the potential health impacts of these particles. This study is important because it may provide insights into how environmental pollution affects our respiratory health.
