ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding how certain skin cells called melanocytes change over time, specifically how they can go from being normal to forming benign moles (nevi) and eventually turning into melanoma, a type of skin cancer. The researchers want to learn more about the different stages of this process, especially in children and young adults with larger congenital melanocytic nevi (L/GCMN), which are birthmarks that can grow to be quite large. They are also looking to improve early diagnosis and treatments for these conditions by studying DNA found in the blood (called cfDNA) and testing new strategies to help patients respond better to treatment.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be over 18 years old and have a congenital nevus that is estimated to be 20 cm or more in size when they reach adulthood. The study is currently recruiting participants of all genders. Those who join can expect to provide biological samples and undergo monitoring to help researchers gain a better understanding of these skin conditions. It’s important to note that individuals will need to give informed consent and have available biological material to participate in the molecular studies.
