ClinConnect Summary

The clinical trial titled "Improving Urinary Tract Infection Diagnosis in Older Patients: Validation of a Biomarker Panel (UTI-GOLD)" is focused on enhancing the way urinary tract infections (UTIs) are diagnosed in older adults, specifically those aged 65 and over. The researchers want to find the best ways to use certain biomarkers—substances in the body that can indicate illness—to improve UTI diagnosis. They will look at the effectiveness of these biomarkers as well as a urine test that counts white blood cells, which help fight infections. Additionally, the study will explore how the level of these biomarkers relates to symptoms, complications, and how long patients stay in the hospital after a UTI.

To participate in the study, individuals must be 65 years or older and have a suspected UTI as determined by their doctor. They should also be able to understand Dutch well enough to answer questions. Participants will need to provide a urine sample and answer some questions about their health and symptoms at the start of the study and again after eight weeks. Vital signs, such as temperature and blood pressure, will also be measured at the beginning. This study is currently recruiting, and it's a chance for older adults to contribute to research that may lead to better UTI diagnosis and care in the future.
