ClinConnect Summary

The clinical trial titled "Memory for Music" is exploring how learning new songs can help improve cognitive function, mood, and overall quality of life for people living with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study will involve adults aged 65 and older who have been diagnosed with AD and live at home. Participants will be non-musicians, meaning they do not have a history of professional music training. The trial aims to recruit 113 individuals, and participants will take part in intensive musical training twice a week for five months, followed by a less frequent training schedule for another five months.

During the study, participants will work with a personal music teacher to learn new songs. Researchers will measure changes in memory, mood, and cognitive abilities through various activities and tests. This study is important because it may help us understand whether music can have positive effects on thinking skills in people with Alzheimer's, as well as how mood and musical memory play a role. This collaboration between researchers and the community is designed to ensure that the findings will be meaningful and applicable to those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
