ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at the use of certain medications called gabapentinoids, which include gabapentin and pregabalin, in older patients who have experienced falls. These medications are often prescribed for nerve pain but are increasingly being used for other types of pain, especially in seniors. The study will review patient records from a fall clinic in Aalborg, Denmark, to understand how commonly these medications and opioids are prescribed, what types of pain they are used for, and how their use has changed over the years. Researchers are particularly interested in the potential risks, like increased drowsiness and dizziness, which can lead to more falls.
To participate in this study, individuals must be patients at the geriatric fall clinic at Aalborg University Hospital during specific years (2013-2014, 2018-2019, or 2023). There are no exclusions based on age or health conditions, so anyone fitting this description may be eligible. Participants can expect their medical records to be reviewed for information on their medications and health history, helping researchers better understand the prescription patterns for elderly patients who have fallen.
