ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a substance in the blood called calprotectin to see how it can help doctors better understand and treat patients with severe infections in the abdomen, known as intra-abdominal sepsis. The goal is to find out if measuring calprotectin levels can help predict how serious a patient's condition is and how well they might recover after surgery. If successful, this test could provide a quick and easy way to assess the severity of sepsis, helping doctors make better treatment decisions.
To participate in this trial, patients must be between 65 and 74 years old and have specific conditions such as perforations in the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal blockages, or certain types of gallbladder and appendix infections. However, those who have had surgery or trauma in the last three months, or who have certain other conditions like acute pancreatitis or burns, cannot join. Participants will undergo blood tests to measure calprotectin levels, and their health will be monitored to see how well they respond to treatment. This trial is actively recruiting participants, and it’s an opportunity to contribute to important research that may improve care for future patients with similar conditions.
