ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether nurses can effectively use a special type of ultrasound, called gastric ultrasound, to check how well the stomach is emptying after major abdominal surgery. After such surgeries, some patients may have difficulty tolerating food due to changes in how their stomach works. The study will assess if trained nurses can perform this ultrasound safely and accurately in patients who have recently undergone gastrointestinal surgery.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult over 18 years old and have had certain types of gastrointestinal surgeries, like liver or colorectal surgery. Participants should be admitted to the hospital for at least three days and must provide written consent to join. However, if you have an open abdominal wound or certain types of feeding tubes, you won't be eligible. If you decide to take part, you'll help researchers understand how nurse-performed gastric ultrasound can be used in clinical settings, which could improve care for future patients after similar surgeries.
