ClinConnect Summary
The PREPARE-M 2024 trial is a study that aims to find out how a prehabilitation program can help patients improve their physical health before undergoing major surgery. Prehabilitation includes activities like physical therapy assessments, nutrition education, exercise instructions, and breathing exercises specifically designed for patients with lower respiratory strength. The main goal is to see if these activities can enhance patients' physical function, measured by handgrip strength, before their surgery. The study will also look at how well patients can walk, their respiratory strength, and their ability to stand up from a seated position, both before surgery and several weeks after.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be over 65 years old and scheduled for a major non-heart-related surgery. They also need to show signs of frailty, as indicated by a specific scoring system. If you join this study, you can expect to participate in the prehabilitation program and have your health assessed at different points, allowing researchers to gather information on how this program affects recovery and overall quality of life after surgery. Remember, this study is currently recruiting, so there may be opportunities to participate if you meet the criteria!
