ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Social Facilitation of Alcohol Effects and Alcohol Misuse in Young Adults," aims to understand how being around friends affects drinking habits in young adults. Researchers want to see how social settings influence alcohol consumption, particularly among those who drink regularly. The study will involve about 250 participants aged 21 to 28 who drink alcohol at least once a week and have experienced binge drinking in the past month.
If you participate, you'll first meet with a same-sex friend for a screening session. Then, you will attend four lab sessions where you'll drink either alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. After these sessions, you'll complete surveys on your smartphone for 28 days and follow-up surveys at 6 and 12 months after you start the study. To be eligible, you need to be within the specified age range, drink alcohol regularly, and own a smartphone. However, if you're pregnant, have certain medical conditions, or are seeking treatment for alcohol use, you won't be able to participate. This study is funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and it's an opportunity to help researchers learn more about alcohol use in social contexts.
