ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of a medication called dexmedetomidine on children undergoing a procedure to close a heart defect known as an atrial septal defect (ASD). The goal is to see if dexmedetomidine can help these young patients recover better from the surgery while keeping their heart and blood pressure stable. The researchers will look at how quickly patients recover and whether they experience less stress during and after the procedure.
Children aged 3 to 12 years who are scheduled for this type of heart surgery may be eligible to participate. During the trial, some children will receive dexmedetomidine, while others will receive a placebo (a treatment that looks like the medication but has no active ingredients). Throughout the process, doctors will monitor the children’s heart function and recovery times, as well as measure certain stress hormones. This study is important because it could help improve the care of children undergoing heart procedures, making their recovery easier and more comfortable.
