ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who have high potassium levels, a condition known as hyperkalemia. The researchers want to understand how these high potassium levels affect the heart by comparing heart images (echocardiograms) and electrical activity readings (ECGs) before and after treatment. Importantly, the doctors treating the patients will not change their treatment plans because of the study, ensuring that patients receive the necessary care promptly.
To participate in this study, individuals must be over 18 years old, have CKD with a specific kidney function level (eGFR below 60), and have high potassium levels found in the emergency department. Participants will have their heart function assessed through echocardiograms and ECGs, and they will be asked to sign a consent form to join the study. Overall, this trial aims to gain valuable insights into how high potassium impacts heart health in patients with CKD.
