ClinConnect Summary
The ICARUS 2 study is looking at how to better manage blood health in patients who are about to have heart surgery. The goal is to help improve levels of hemoglobin, which is the protein in your blood that carries oxygen, especially for those who may have low iron levels. A team of specialists, including blood doctors and heart surgeons, will review blood tests of patients scheduled for surgery and provide treatment to boost iron levels before surgery. This approach aims to reduce the need for blood transfusions during and after surgery, helping patients recover more effectively.
To be part of this trial, you need to be an adult scheduled for elective heart surgery. However, if you are pregnant, on dialysis, or do not wish to participate, you would not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect close monitoring of your blood health and care aimed at improving your recovery after surgery. This research is important as it helps ensure that patients receive the best possible care and support during their surgical journey.
