ClinConnect Summary

The "Brain Uptrain to Improve Learning and Development" clinical trial is exploring whether a special program that combines early literacy and developmental activities, along with shared reading, can help improve the development of infants by the time they are 24 months old. In this study, all caregivers will learn how to read with their infants effectively. Additionally, half of the caregivers will receive extra training to implement a coach-led program focused on early literacy and math skills. Researchers will gather information about the infants' development through surveys and assessments completed by parents.

To participate, infants need to be born at UAB, delivered after at least 35 weeks of pregnancy, and expected to go home after their initial hospital stay. Infants with serious medical conditions, those who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), or who speak a language other than English or Spanish are not eligible. This study is currently not recruiting participants, but once it begins, families can expect to engage in activities that support their child’s early learning and development while contributing to important research.
