ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a special imaging technique called [11C]Choline PET/CT to see how well it can help surgeons find parathyroid adenomas in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). HPT is a condition where the body produces too much of a hormone that controls calcium levels, often leading to health issues. The only way to cure this condition is through surgery to remove the overactive parathyroid glands. This trial aims to find out if [11C]Choline PET/CT is better at locating these glands compared to other imaging methods, which can sometimes miss them.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and have been diagnosed with HPT through blood tests showing high levels of a hormone called parathyroid hormone (PTH) or normal PTH with high calcium levels. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but if you are eligible and choose to participate, you will undergo the [11C]Choline PET/CT imaging before your surgery. This imaging technique is promising because it takes less time, exposes you to lower radiation, and has shown to be effective in helping identify the problematic glands in many patients who have had negative results from other imaging tests.
