ClinConnect Summary
The MetaKOP clinical trial is studying whether a special nursing program can help individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) lose weight and reduce their risk of metabolic syndrome, which is a group of health issues that can lead to serious conditions like diabetes and heart disease. The trial will compare two groups: one that receives this focused nursing support and another that receives standard care. Participants will attend eight sessions with a nurse, where they will learn about healthy eating and physical activity. They will also have their weight and health checked at the beginning of the study, and again after six and twelve months.
To be part of the trial, participants need to have been diagnosed with first-episode psychosis within the last five years and be enrolled in an Early Intervention Program. They should be able to understand and follow the instructions given in the study. Unfortunately, those with certain cognitive or neurological conditions, or who are taking specific medications, won’t be eligible. This trial aims to see if the nursing intervention can significantly help participants lose at least 5% of their body weight and improve their overall health and quality of life.
