ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying whether applying vancomycin powder directly to the chest wound after heart surgery can help prevent infections. Sternal wound infections can lead to serious problems and longer hospital stays, so researchers want to see if this treatment can improve recovery. The study will involve 24 adult patients who are having various types of heart surgeries, and they will be divided into two groups: one will receive standard care, while the other will get the vancomycin powder on their wound.

To participate in the trial, patients need to be between 21 and 80 years old and undergoing specific heart surgeries. However, those who have allergies to vancomycin or are having repeat surgeries will not be eligible. Participants can expect to have their wounds checked at three different times after surgery to see how well the treatment works. This trial has not started recruiting participants yet, but it aims to find a better way to prevent infections after heart surgery, which could lead to quicker recoveries and less time in the hospital.
