ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study that will look at how the heart’s electrical activity changes during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) when the abdomen is inflated with gas. Researchers will measure ECG features, especially the frontal plane QRS-T angle and the QT/QTc interval, at several points around surgery: before the operation, before and right after gas inflation, shortly after the patient is awakened, and about 2 hours after surgery. The goal is to see if the higher pressure inside the abdomen during the procedure affects heart rhythm and potentially the risk of arrhythmias, using data collected from a standard heart monitor.
Who can join and what to expect: 18- to 65-year-old adults scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy who do not have major heart, lung, electrolyte, kidney, metabolic, or certain psychiatric conditions can be eligible. The study is taking place at Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University in Tokat, Turkey, led by Assistant Professor Ali Genc. About 48 participants are planned, and enrollment is by invitation. This is an observational registry, so participants will receive usual anesthesia and care, with extra ECG data collected for the study. The trial is currently enrolling, and results are not yet available.
