ClinConnect Summary
This international online study (called Asthma Exacerbations & Respiratory Management: AERMIS) is surveying doctors who care for adults with asthma. It doesn’t test patients. Instead, researchers ask physicians about their knowledge, attitudes, and everyday practices in handling sudden worsening of asthma symptoms (acute asthma flare-ups). The survey looks at how doctors diagnose these flare-ups, choose medicines, use oxygen or ventilation support, and what they think predicts a patient’s outcome. The goal is to find gaps between guidelines and real practice so future guidance can be clearer and safer.
Who can participate and what to expect: Eligible participants are practicing doctors who treat adult asthma—such as pulmonologists, internists, family doctors, and intensivists—from various countries and care settings. You must be at least about 23 years old and currently practicing; non-practicing medical students are not eligible. The online questionnaire covers several topics and may take some time to complete. Responses are anonymous, and about 300 doctors are expected to take part. The study is enrolling by invitation, led by Assiut University in Egypt with international collaboration, and results will be shared later to help improve asthma care.
