ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how sleep quality affects the ability of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to be weaned off invasive mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). When patients are on a ventilator, they often experience sleep disturbances, which can make it harder for them to breathe on their own again. The researchers want to compare the sleep patterns of COPD patients who successfully transition off the ventilator with those who do not. They believe that poor sleep in the days leading up to the weaning test might be a reason for failure.
To be eligible for this study, patients must be diagnosed with COPD, have been on a ventilator for more than 24 hours, and be able to respond adequately when evaluated. Patients who have certain brain or muscle conditions, are pregnant, or do not want to participate will not be included. If you or a loved one is considering participation, the study will involve monitoring sleep patterns and assessing how they relate to the weaning process from the ventilator. This could help improve care for future ICU patients with COPD.
