ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at complicated pneumonia in children, especially cases where the pneumonia has led to serious issues like lung abscesses or fluid in the lungs. Researchers want to understand how these severe cases develop, what causes them (like specific viruses or bacteria), and how they affect children's health both in the short term and long term. The study will gather information from pediatric hospitals in South-East Europe over a ten-year period.

To participate, children must be between the ages of 1 month and 18 years and have been hospitalized with complicated pneumonia between January 2014 and April 2024. However, children with certain conditions that make them more vulnerable to severe lung infections, like cystic fibrosis or immune system disorders, will not be eligible. Participants can expect their medical data to be used to help improve treatment and prevention strategies for this serious illness in the future.
