ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how a special ultrasound technique, called Gastric POCUS, can help manage the airway of patients who use a specific type of diabetes medication known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. These medications can slow down how quickly food leaves the stomach, which might increase the risk of aspiration pneumonia during surgery. Aspiration pneumonia is a serious condition that can occur if food or liquid enters the lungs, especially when a patient is under anesthesia. The goal of the trial is to better understand the risks and improve safety for patients who are scheduled for surgery after taking these medications.
To participate in the trial, patients need to be adults aged between 18 and 75 who are taking GLP-1 medications and are scheduled for surgery. However, those with certain medical conditions, like previous stomach surgeries or specific gastrointestinal issues, won't be eligible. If you join the study, you will undergo tests to assess your stomach's content before surgery, which may help doctors ensure your safety during the procedure. This research is important because it seeks to create clearer guidelines for managing patients on GLP-1 medications in a surgical setting, ultimately aiming to reduce the risk of complications.
