ClinConnect Summary
The GC-PRO study is looking to improve genetic counseling for people experiencing various health conditions, including cancer and heart diseases. The researchers want to understand if different methods of delivering genetic counseling can enhance patients' experiences. To do this, they are asking participants to fill out two surveys and allow their counseling sessions to be recorded. Importantly, the study is collaborating with communities such as Somali, Latino/Hispanic, Black/African American, and Hmong to ensure that the research benefits those who are often underserved.
To be part of this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and either have been referred for genetic counseling yourself or have a child who has been referred. It's also important that you can read and respond to the study forms and surveys in English. Participants can expect a supportive environment where their experiences and opinions will help shape better genetic counseling practices in the future. If you’re a parent or legal guardian of a child needing counseling, you can also participate, but it’s essential that you can give informed consent.
