ClinConnect Summary
The ID Testing Outreach in Carceral Hubs trial is focused on improving HIV testing and treatment for individuals in two jails in the Boston area: the South Bay House of Corrections and Nashua Street Jail. Researchers have found that there are significant gaps in how HIV care is integrated into the healthcare systems within these jails. To address this, they have developed an intervention called ID-TOUCH, which aims to standardize HIV testing practices during key moments when individuals receive medical care, such as during nursing intake and physical exams. This study will evaluate how well this new approach works by gathering information from those currently incarcerated and following up with them after their release.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be currently incarcerated at one of the two jails, have a clear sentenced status, and be comfortable speaking English. Those who have cognitive difficulties that affect their ability to give consent or complete the study activities will not be included. Participants can expect to share their experiences with healthcare services while in jail and after their release, with follow-up assessments happening one week and three months after they leave jail. The main goal is to identify and overcome barriers to better HIV testing and treatment in these settings, ultimately helping to connect individuals with necessary healthcare services in the community.
