ClinConnect Summary
The COUGAR trial is a research study that aims to understand how different autoimmune diseases, like Sjögren's syndrome, lupus, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis, affect the salivary glands. Researchers will use ultrasound, a safe imaging technique, to look at the salivary glands of patients with these conditions and compare their results to people who have dry mouth but don't have these autoimmune diseases. This study will help doctors learn more about how these diseases impact salivary glands and may improve future treatments.
To participate in this study, you need to be an adult and meet certain criteria, such as having been diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or scleroderma, or being a control participant with dry mouth. Unfortunately, people who cannot understand the study or are under legal guardianship cannot take part. If you join the study, you can expect to have an ultrasound of your salivary glands, which is a quick and painless process. This trial is still in the planning stage and has not started recruiting participants yet.
