ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effectiveness of a special type of exercise called Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) for people who have heart disease and have undergone a procedure to open their coronary arteries. Researchers want to find out if adding IMT to the usual cardiac rehabilitation program can help improve physical strength, mental health, and overall quality of life for these patients. The study will involve participants completing an 8-week program where one group will do the standard exercises, while another group will also do IMT alongside those exercises.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be between 18 and 80 years old, have been diagnosed with myocardial ischemia (a condition where the heart doesn't get enough blood), and have had a procedure called percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). People with certain heart conditions or those who can’t safely exercise won't be included. Participants can expect to attend sessions twice a week for exercise, along with additional support in health education and mental well-being. The hope is that this study will provide valuable information on how to enhance rehabilitation for heart disease patients and potentially recommend IMT as a standard part of their care.
