ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is investigating whether using a medication called dexmedetomidine during surgery can help reduce the amount of another pain medication, remifentanil, that patients need. Remifentanil is commonly used to manage pain during surgeries, but it can have side effects. The goal of this study is to see if an infusion of dexmedetomidine, which can provide sedation and pain relief, makes a significant difference in how much remifentanil is used during laparoscopic abdominal surgeries, which are minimally invasive procedures.

To participate in this trial, you need to be between the ages of 18 and 80 and be scheduled for laparoscopic surgery, such as general surgery, gynecology, or urology. You should generally be in good health (ASA 1-3) and not have a history of chronic opioid use, allergies to trial medications, or specific heart conditions. If you decide to join, you can expect to receive either the dexmedetomidine infusion or a placebo (a substance with no active medication) during your surgery, and the effects on your pain management will be closely monitored. It's important to know that the trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to offer insights into safer pain management strategies in surgery.
