ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how different types of anesthesia—specifically low-flow and high-flow anesthesia—affect eye pressure and nerve health during a specific kidney stone surgery called percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). The researchers want to find out which type of anesthesia is better for protecting the eyes by measuring eye pressure, the size of the optic nerve sheath (which surrounds the optic nerve), and blood flow to the eyes. They will also look at how these anesthesia methods affect overall blood flow and oxygen levels in the body.

To participate in this trial, patients need to be between 18 and 60 years old and have a certain level of health, as determined by the American Society of Anesthesiologists. This includes people who are generally healthy or have mild health issues. However, patients with significant health problems, a history of drug or alcohol addiction, or those who smoke heavily cannot participate. While the study is not yet recruiting participants, those who join can expect to have their eye pressure and nerve health monitored during their surgery, which will help improve understanding of the safest anesthesia methods for patients undergoing this procedure.
