ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at ways to help veterans who smoke and are at high risk for suicide. It aims to understand if combining traditional smoking cessation treatments with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can be more effective than standard methods alone. DBT is a type of therapy that helps people manage intense emotions and thoughts that can lead to suicidal feelings. By enrolling veterans who receive care from the VA and show signs of being at risk for suicide, the study hopes to find better ways to support them in quitting smoking, which may also improve their mood and overall well-being.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be veterans receiving VA healthcare and have shown multiple signs of being at risk for suicide in the past six months. Unfortunately, those with cognitive impairments or who cannot attend virtual sessions are not eligible. If accepted into the study, participants can expect to receive either standard smoking cessation support or the new treatment that includes DBT techniques. This trial is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74, and both men and women are welcome to join.
