ClinConnect Summary
This international, observational study is designed to create a formal training curriculum for physicians who manage airways in critically ill patients (for example, during intubation). It uses a Delphi method, where experts answer surveys in several rounds and receive feedback until a strong consensus is reached on what training should include. The goal is to produce consensus statements about essential training components, not to test a treatment or device.
Eligible participants are about 50 experts worldwide who have real experience in airway management of critically ill patients and who also educate others in this area, and who have at least one related publication or research project. There are no formal exclusion criteria beyond meeting the eligibility criteria. Participants will complete anonymous surveys across multiple rounds over roughly a 12-month period, and the study aims for statements to reach at least 75% agreement. Enrollment is by invitation and is led by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (NCT06689748, CASCADE) in Dallas, Texas, with results expected to help guide future training programs for this high-risk area of care.
