ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at whether listening to music or white noise during a pediatric endoscopy (a camera exam of the gut) can reduce fear, anxiety, and pain in school-age children (ages 6 to 12) compared with no audio intervention. It randomizes kids into three groups: music, white noise, or no sound at all, and the child doesn’t know which group they’re in. Researchers will track fear, anxiety, pain, and some vital signs (like heart rate and breathing) and also look at how worried the parents are, with assessments planned up to six months after the procedure.
To be eligible, a child must be 6–12 years old and have not had an endoscopy or surgery before, be able to communicate, and be able to count and understand numbers. They must be scheduled for an endoscopy and not have hearing or speech problems, not have used pain medicines within six hours before the procedure, and agree to participate. The study is being run at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa in Istanbul, Turkey, led by Dr. Busra Inac Yilmaz, and enrolls by invitation with about 102 participants planned. The trial is not yet reporting results, and completion is expected in mid-2025.
