ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial, called the Upper Airway Ultrasound Evaluation, is studying whether certain ultrasound measurements of the neck can help predict difficulties that may arise during airway management in patients undergoing surgery. Specifically, it aims to see if using ultrasound can improve our ability to assess challenges with breathing support and intubation (inserting a tube to help with breathing) before the procedure begins. This is important because complications can occur in a small percentage of surgeries when doctors face unexpected difficulties in managing a patient’s airway.

To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for an elective surgery that requires general anesthesia and intubation, but you cannot have had certain neck surgeries or be pregnant. If you join, researchers will take specific ultrasound measurements of your neck during your pre-surgery evaluation, alongside standard assessments. After you are given anesthesia, they will also evaluate how easily they can manage your airway. The goal is to see if these new ultrasound techniques can help doctors better predict and prepare for any challenges during your surgery.
