Airway Management Ultrasound Palpation Cricothyroid Membrane

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how well anesthesiologists can locate a specific part of the throat called the cricothyroid membrane using two different methods: feeling for it by hand (palpation) or using an ultrasound machine (ultrasonography). To make the study more challenging, the researchers are using a silicone model of a neck that has been altered to mimic a patient with a neck problem. This helps understand how these techniques work in more difficult situations.

Participants in this trial will be anesthesiologists who are taking an airway management course, and everyone is welcome to join, regardless of gender. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but those who choose to participate will have the opportunity to use either the “String of pearls” or the “Thyroid-Airline-Cricoid-Airline” method with the ultrasound. The trial aims to improve ways of identifying this important area of the throat, which can be crucial during emergency situations. If you’re interested in helping advance this research and meet the criteria, you could play a part in enhancing airway management techniques.
