ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at new ways to detect changes in lung cancer using different types of samples. Researchers want to see if they can find cancer-related changes in sputum (mucus from the lungs), a special fluid from the lungs called Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), and breath samples that contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), in addition to blood samples. The study focuses on patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are having surgery to remove the cancer, and it will follow them for two years to monitor any changes after their surgery.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and able to give your consent. The study is looking for patients who are scheduled for surgery with the goal of completely removing their lung cancer at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health. However, those who have other active cancers or had a different cancer treated within the last five years (excluding skin cancer) won’t be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to provide various samples before and after your surgery, which will help researchers learn more about lung cancer and how to detect it early.
