ClinConnect Summary
This study is testing a new oral care tool called an oral care retractor, designed to help nurses clean the mouths of patients who are intubated in the ICU. It will be studied in a realistic simulation using a life-like mannequin in a standard ICU room. Nurses will do two rounds of oral care in random order: one with the retractor and one with standard care (without the retractor). The researchers will look at how the retractor affects the way care is performed and how the oral cavity looks afterward, using a simple 0–10 rating by the nurse and a Beck Mouth Assessment score, recorded about two minutes after each care session.
If you were to participate (as a nurse in the ICU), you would need to be an adult ICU nurse with at least six months of ICU experience and you would volunteer for a simulated study in Bitlis, Turkey. The trial plans to enroll about 30 participants and involves two care sessions per person, a short rest between sessions, and after each session you’d complete some forms and participate in a brief interview about your experience. The study is a simulation and does not involve real patients or share patient data. The oral care retractor is an investigational device (not FDA-approved), and the study aims to see if it could improve future practice in oral care for intubated patients.
