ClinConnect Summary
The SI! Program Reintervention for Elementary Schools Trial is studying how a school-based program can help improve children's cardiovascular health and reduce obesity. This program has been tested in other countries and aims to boost kids' knowledge and habits around healthy living. In this trial, 50 elementary schools in Spain will either implement the SI! Program for five years, starting in 2nd grade with two classroom sessions, or begin the program later in 5th grade with just one session. Researchers will measure various health indicators, like diet, physical activity, and other factors related to heart health, over several years to see how effective the program is.
To participate, schools must be located in the Madrid Region or Catalonia, be public or charter schools serving grades 1 to 6, and have a cafeteria. The trial is currently recruiting, and children in the 1st grade will be evaluated at the beginning and again after several years to track their health improvements. This study hopes to show that by reinforcing healthy habits in schools, children can develop better lifestyles that last over time, ultimately benefiting their cardiovascular health.
