This clinical trial is focused on understanding how common intestinal parasitic infections are among young children under the age of five who are experiencing malnutrition in Sohag, Egypt. Malnutrition can show up as growth problems, lack of energy, or other health issues in children. Researchers want to study 100 children who are between 6 months and 5 years old and show signs of malnutrition.

To participate in the study, children must not have taken specific medications for intestinal infections or diarrhea in the three weeks leading up to the study. If selected, participants will be recruited from pediatric clinics at Sohag University, where they will undergo assessments to help researchers gather valuable information. This study is currently looking for eligible children, and the findings may help improve understanding and treatment of malnutrition and its complications in young children.

Eligibility criteria

  • Inclusion Criteria:
  • - 100 children aged between 6 months and 5 years, having malnutrition symptoms (growth retardation, failure to thrive, lethargy, generalized weakness, xerophthalmia, etc.) will be randomly recruited from pediatric outpatient clinics, Faculty of medicine, Sohag University.
  • Exclusion Criteria:
  • children who took specific anthelmintic, antiprotozoal, purgatives or anti-diarrheal drugs three weeks before the stool sampling.
