ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the best ways to add moisture to the air that patients receive when they are on invasive mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU). There are two methods for humidifying the air: one uses a heat and humidity exchanger, while the other uses heated humidity directly. The trial aims to compare the effectiveness of these two methods to see which one works better for patients who need long-term support for their breathing.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 18 years old and currently receiving invasive mechanical ventilation in the ICU for common reasons that require humidification, such as prolonged ventilation. However, those who have just had surgery, are about to be taken off the ventilator, or are involved in another specific study will not be able to participate. If you or a loved one qualifies and decides to join, you can expect that the researchers will collect information about the humidification methods used during the time in the ICU to help improve care for future patients.
