ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Real-time Examination of Skills and Coping Use in Teen's Everyday Lives," is focused on understanding how adolescents who have harmed themselves can learn and use two important skills in their daily lives. The study aims to find out when these young people use these skills, how quickly they forget them after learning, and how stress from life events may affect their ability to keep using these skills. The researchers are also interested in how factors related to the brain, family, and body might influence these skills and any changes in self-harm or emotional struggles.
To participate, teens must have a history of self-injury, including at least one serious suicide attempt. Eligible participants should be able to speak English, have access to a smartphone, and have a parent or guardian who can join them in the study. Throughout the trial, participants will answer surveys on their phones several times a day and practice the skills with their parent while discussing common family disagreements. They will also wear equipment to monitor their heart and sweat during these discussions. In some cases, participants may undergo brain scans to explore how their brain responds during the learning process. This study is currently recruiting participants, and all genders are welcome to join.
