ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on finding better ways to identify children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, who are at risk of malnutrition. Malnutrition can be a serious concern for these children, as their condition may prevent them from getting the nutrients they need. The researchers want to see if an existing nutritional screening tool, called the Paediatric Yorkhill Malnutrition Score (PYMS), can effectively spot kids with IBD who need nutritional help. If PYMS isn't effective, they plan to create a new tool specifically designed for children with IBD, named the Paediatric IBD Nutrition Score (PIBD-NUTS).
To participate in the trial, children aged 4 to 18 years who have either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis can be included. Unfortunately, children diagnosed with IBD type unclassified (IBDU) are not eligible. Families involved in the trial can expect to help researchers understand how well these nutritional screening tools work, which could lead to better nutritional care for children with IBD. This study aims to ensure that children who need dietary support are identified quickly to improve their overall health and well-being.
