ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different surgical techniques for repairing hiatal hernias, called the Nissen fundoplication and the Dor fundoplication. Hiatal hernias occur when part of the stomach pushes up into the chest through an opening in the diaphragm, and they can cause various symptoms. The goal of this study is to see which of these techniques is better at preventing the hernia from coming back and reducing the need for additional surgeries in the future.
To participate, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a specific type of hiatal hernia confirmed by medical imaging or an endoscopy. They should also be scheduled for a minimally invasive surgery to repair the hernia. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two surgical treatments. After the surgery, their recovery will be monitored for 12 months to assess whether the hernia has returned, any symptoms they experience, and their quality of life related to reflux issues. This trial is currently recruiting and is open to all genders.
